Road Trip | Whyte Ave.
Edmonton’s a short drive away from my hometown of Saskatoon making it an easy weekend getaway. This past weekend we drove five short hours to hang out with the Foosh family and soak up a bit of Whyte Avenue. Being an outsider of the city, I’ve always viewed this long street as a hip area of the city with its boutique shops, diverse restaurants and festivals. We showed up late afternoon to do a late lunch/early supper at a place I found last year called Meat.
I would describe Meat as a smokehouse restaurant with authentic BBQ items. The idea behind the experience is offering friends and family a sharing experience. We went with some local beers, bourbon, pulled pork, beef brisket, garlic fries and coleslaw. Their homemade barbecue sauces, friendly staff and selection of smoked meats make this a must-stop anytime you’re on Whyte Ave. or in the city. I’m a big fan of the pulled pork with the spicy barbecue sauce and garlic fries. Shoutout to the staff for taking good care of us and the locals in the restaurant for chatting us up.
Next we hit up our friends Foosh to see what they had in stock, talk Olé and share some Original 16’s. These guys carry everything from exclusive sneakers, Kid Robot vinyl toys and our own Olé 306 jeans. The fact that they have been open and running in Edmonton for the past 16 years makes them a true staple shop in the city. Make sure you stop by to hang out with these guys for good shopping, conversations and recommendations of what to do in the city.
