To celebrate 3 years of Fit To Live and Olé Denim, we are really excited to share with you our Indigo Apron Collection.

Over the past three years we have been fortunate enough to converse with many of our customers and get into conversation that transcends beyond denim. Through our conversations it was very evident that many of our customers were, first and foremost, creators – tattoo artists, culinary masterminds, coffee shop owners, restaurateurs, painters, graffiti artists, photographers and designers.

That got us to thinking about a product that we could create that could come close to representing the multitude of talent we ran into. From this train of thought we began to develop a small collection of minimalistic aprons that could fit seamlessly into the lives of many of our customers.

The first apron is constructed from our classic 13.2oz Vintage Selvedge ($120) used in our popular 306 denim. The second is produced from a custom vintage 11.75oz Kaihara Denim ($80) that had been sitting dormant in a Winnipeg warehouse before being generously gifted to us by our very good friend, Roy Liang.

The aprons feature an adjustable waist and neck strap allowing it to fit a range of sizes from women’s XS to men’s XXL. Both aprons utilize the same antique brass hardware, 1″ environmentally-friendly natural cotton webbing and Ken Diamond handcrafted leather label. Both aprons are proudly made in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Even on the hottest of days (it was easily over +30), it’s great to see our friends wearing their pair of Olé Denim. This was the case for Eric agreeing to wander the streets with us to shoot some photos of one of his pairs of 306 13oz vintage denim, we really wanted to document the early fading and wear of his jeans. If you don’t know Eric, he has been supporting us since the very beginning and you may have even seen him running the show when we were a part of our 255 Vaughan popup shop in Winnipeg that was around a few years ago. Take a look at his jeans below, the whiskers and honeycombs are beginning to lose their indigo and are starting to pop!

Model and fabric: 306 13oz Vintage denim

Wears: Because I’m in work wear all day, I’ve worn these jeans on evenings and weekends for 2 and a half years. They are my favourite and only pair of jeans.

Washes/Soaks: I’ve washed these once.

Washing rituals and methods: Sometimes a little spot cleaning with a cloth and water is needed. Otherwise, I followed the directions on the Olé website the one time that I washed them after almost 2 years of wear.

Fond memory in this pair: Obviously I don’t wear these to work and that means I hang out with friends in them, go to Jets games in them, and basically do all my favourite (and non-favourite errand-running) in them! No one memory sticks out because they are just my go-to, which is kinda pretty cool in itself.

Favourite sports team: Who else, but the Winnipeg Jets! We share a pool of tickets for the year and taking my boys to the game is a fun night out.

Favourite album: Foo Fighters “The Color and The Shape” because it was my first favourite album. “Monkey Wrench” and “Everlong” songs – enough said.

One website you visit daily: YouTube – some of my favourite channels are Casey Niestat and Daily Driven Exotics for sure.

Social media handle: I’m not on social media but I do troll my wife’s from time to time? She captures our life on Instagram, and if you troll hard enough, you will see me there @chantal_wiebe.

What’s next for you: We are turning an old warehouse building into apartments in the Exchange. It will be staring up this fall, and as a co-owner and site supervisor of it, I’m excited to see it come to life.


306 15oz Slub Selvedge – 1 Month’s Wear

Similar to producing a product itself, we always encourage our Olé family to enjoy the process. It’s easy to get obsessed with the fades that many desire but it’s the journey and progress that we appreciate. Enjoy the denim from the first wear to the 10th wash and so forth. Here’s an example of a pair of our 306 15oz slub denim that has been worn for approximately month since the end of December. As you can see, the electric blue colour is starting to be seen at the whiskers, phone pocket and rear.

FAQ | Can I wash them?

“Are these the jeans you can’t wash?” is a common question that we are asked at Olé. To be fair, over ten years ago I was also washing my pairs only once a year due to what I was reading on the internet. But things changed as I got older, educated myself and started to care more about my hygiene and the hard-earned dollars that we were putting into quality products. We feel that raw fabric is an awesome partner to help document one’s life and you also get to reap the benefits of nice fading and denim evolution. That’s why we believe it’s important to take care of your jeans to allow for them to last longer.

When it comes to denim care, we are happy to say treat them however you’d like but do offer a few recommendations that we practice. Not washing your jeans can lead to a couple of different outcomes, one being early fabric tears and the other being a lack of second dates. If the jeans have been spilled on, smell funky or haven’t seen laundry detergent in a while, give them a wash. Washing your pair of 306’s will clean the dirt and bacteria that the jeans have acquired that can over time break down the cotton fibres leading to quicker tears, more repairs and eventually unwearable.

Our recommended washing care:

When washing the jeans we skip past the ocean washes and recommend something simple. Fill a tub or container with cold water and use detergent (Ex. Woolite Dark) to hand wash your Olé Denim to remove stains and odor. Let them soak in that tub for a half hour to 45 minutes before draining the tub. When you are finished washing them,  refill the tub/container with cold water. Flip your jeans inside out and let them soak for another 15 to 20 minutes. After the soaking process, let the jeans hang dry.
