Momentum was Olé Denim’s first retailer in 2015, so it only makes sense that the first collaboration pays homage to the seven-year relationship we’ve built together. We had conversations in the winter of 2020 discussing our passion for denim, unique products and the opportunity to make cool things with our friends. Like any project we take on, we consider the quality of the final good and whether we’d spend our hard-earned money on it. Through these conversations, we looped in our friend and customer Sengshiko to bring his talents to the table as well.

Our plan was to develop a capsule collection to feature Japanese denim and sashiko products. Sashiko was seen as early as the eighth century and was given its name after the verb “to pierce”. Its purpose was used on clothing to provide extra durability, repairs and to stitch unique designs to personalize pieces. Like raw denim evolution, sashiko denim can never be reproduced in the exact same way, and there are nuances and differences that ultimately make your pair different than the next.

Working with Sengshiko, the group of us collaborated on a design that represented the prairies, which have become such a strong environment for all our businesses. This is shown by a “nowaki” design or from our perspective, the sheaf blowing in the wind. It also mimics the idea that like each of us are different and that every article of clothing embraces its imperfections and uniqueness.

Each design was handcrafted in Canada. All tees and hoodies are made in Canada. The denim comes from Kaihara Mills.

Available exclusively at Momentum on June 29, 2022.

Indigo Apron Collection

To celebrate 3 years of Fit To Live and Olé Denim, we are really excited to share with you our Indigo Apron Collection.

Over the past three years we have been fortunate enough to converse with many of our customers and get into conversation that transcends beyond denim. Through our conversations it was very evident that many of our customers were, first and foremost, creators – tattoo artists, culinary masterminds, coffee shop owners, restaurateurs, painters, graffiti artists, photographers and designers.

That got us to thinking about a product that we could create that could come close to representing the multitude of talent we ran into. From this train of thought we began to develop a small collection of minimalistic aprons that could fit seamlessly into the lives of many of our customers.

The first apron is constructed from our classic 13.2oz Vintage Selvedge ($120) used in our popular 306 denim. The second is produced from a custom vintage 11.75oz Kaihara Denim ($80) that had been sitting dormant in a Winnipeg warehouse before being generously gifted to us by our very good friend, Roy Liang.

The aprons feature an adjustable waist and neck strap allowing it to fit a range of sizes from women’s XS to men’s XXL. Both aprons utilize the same antique brass hardware, 1″ environmentally-friendly natural cotton webbing and Ken Diamond handcrafted leather label. Both aprons are proudly made in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Even on the hottest of days (it was easily over +30), it’s great to see our friends wearing their pair of Olé Denim. This was the case for Eric agreeing to wander the streets with us to shoot some photos of one of his pairs of 306 13oz vintage denim, we really wanted to document the early fading and wear of his jeans. If you don’t know Eric, he has been supporting us since the very beginning and you may have even seen him running the show when we were a part of our 255 Vaughan popup shop in Winnipeg that was around a few years ago. Take a look at his jeans below, the whiskers and honeycombs are beginning to lose their indigo and are starting to pop!

Send us a message if you’d like to share your pair of Olé Denim with us.
